A priority of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue is the education of its residents in both injury and fire prevention. Our public education specialist has over twenty-one years experience in classroom teaching and five years in fire and injury prevention education. Through partnering with experienced firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and paramedics, we can assist you with any of your injury and fire prevention needs.
Services which KCFR can provide its residents upon request include: station tours, fire safety presentations for youth groups, scouts, schools, civic organizations or local businesses, fire extinguisher training, Juvenile Fire Setter (children “playing” with fire) education, child car seat inspection and assistance, fire drills in schools, businesses, or the home, and installation or assistance with smoke detectors.
Some of the key events supported by our public education division include; Fire Prevention Week presentations in all district elementary schools, Middle and High School Career Days, and High School presentations on the effects of driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol and the dangers of driving unrestrained (no seat belts). We also provide assistance for displaced families due to fire or catastrophic events, Senior Fall Prevention, reading in the schools, open houses, the North Idaho Fair, school safety skits, and health fairs.
