Department | Message From the Chief

Welcome to Kootenai County Fire & Rescue (KCFR) where our mission is to “protect life, property, and our community with Honor, Integrity and Pride”!  Under the direction of a Board of Fire Commissioners, KCFR has 76 career personnel who are dedicated to the citizens and visitors of our District. Our professional emergency response crews and support staff work tirelessly every day to live our mission.  As a high functioning team, we provide quality service and believe strongly in professionalism, collaboration, and accountability.

Our Operations Section is responsible for an “all-hazards” approach to emergencies.  Out of four fire stations we respond to over 7,000 fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material and technical rescue incidents annually in our jurisdiction.  The majority of KCFR’s personnel work in the operations section. Daily, 20 firefighters led by a Battalion Chief are on duty.

The Support Services Section “supports” our operations with the Administration, Logistics, and Fire Marshal’s Divisions.  Each of these key areas function to ensure that we maintain a great level of readiness and service to our citizens at all times.  A key strategy for the District is to prevent fires and other incidents through inspection, public education, and code enforcement.

KCFR also works with other key organizations to provide our core emergency services.  Those partners in the delivery of service include other Fire Districts and Fire Departments in Kootenai and Spokane Counties, Kootenai County Emergency Medical Services System (KCEMSS), the Post Falls Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, and the Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management to name a few.  We proudly serve Kootenai County; specifically the communities of Post Falls, Dalton Gardens, Stateline Village, Fernan Lake Village, and Huetter.

We strive to provide exceptional service and are always interested in hearing from our constituents. Please do not hesitate to contact the Fire District by phone at (208) 777-8500 or emailing info@kootenaifire.com.  We are here to serve you!

Yours in Service,

Christopher E. Way
